I have learned compassion from isolation. Looking in a mirror had always been the most isolating experience I could imagine. Isolation has taught me compassion in a somewhat selfish way. I am discomforted by isolation and fear the loneliness I feel from it. I try to be a compassionate person so that, not only may I enliven others, but the positive energy I receive from being compassionate to others makes me feels less lonely. Whenever I feel isolated I think of the house I grew up in when I was younger. I did not have siblings, and I never had friends over and rarely went to their houses, which heightened my sense of isolation more. Looking into mirrors is now reminiscent of my old home and life. Because of this correlation, looking in mirrors is no longer disconcerting to me.This piece is a representation of my isolation.
